I saw The Who perform live a total of nine times in 1965. The Who Concert File (Omnibus Press) is the only source for information on this period. In 1999, Andy Neill will publish the long awaited "Anyhow Anyway Anywhere" and more dates will be confirmed. It's totally impossible to put The Who's schedule to-gether by researching the music press during this period since there were so many unpublished appearances which were promoted mainly by Posters and word of mouth.

A lot has already been written about the Marquee, but it was sometimes the "bad" dates that often turned out to be good. I saw the band perform at the Pontiac Club in Puntney a week or so before the Richmond Blues Festival. The band was supposed to play two sets, but the P.A. set went "on the blink" and it was a short show. In spite of this, the band put on a vitriolic performance playing both "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere" and a rudimentary Work in Progress"My Generation".

I can also recall a date at Eltham Baths in December. Unfortunately, Keith was sick, so Viv Prince had to be a substitute drummer (is this a pun?). He was introduced by Pete as being a "an old mate" and did a very fine job. Viv was always a great comedian with the "Pretty Things" and also had a mad cap style of percussion. Pete had to give him special instructions from the stage on how to play "I Don't Mind", listen to the track and you'll understand why!
